We enjoy receiving a complicated brief to meet a client’s very specific need or to suit a challenging property, and relish the chance to develop an adventurous design.

Here, our brief was to design an enlargement of an artist’s studio to enable him to take on apprentices and to work on larger pieces. Without disturbing the environment of the existing studio which had been the centre of the creative work for many years, and sacrosanct, we had to create an unimpeded space that provided controllable northerly light from the roof for the artists use in making still-life and portrait paintings and large rolling doors for removal of artworks. We adopted a contemporary design incorporating natural materials and gained permission for this within a Conservation Area.
